I can scarcely believe I am writing about my placement in the past tense now. When I cast my mind back to June 2013 and the moment I received the phone call informing me that I had got the job, I still remember that sense of joy, relief and excitement all bundled into one as if it were yesterday. After so many knock backs, to have finally secured myself a placement for my year in industry felt amazing, little did I know about the exciting journey that lay ahead of me.
Working in my home town was brilliant for me, and certainly gave me an advantage when I started at Enterprise. Ipswich was also a very exciting place to be working at the time, with the opening of a second branch, and I could see first hand the growth that I had heard about right on my door step.
I think it would be quite a shock for me to see myself as I was before I joined Enterprise, I remember going to other assessment centres, feeling uncomfortable in a suit, struggling to get my opinion across in group discussions and generally not getting my personality across in a manner I knew I had the capability to do. And this is where I have seen the biggest change in me. The vast array of people you deal with and build relationships with on a daily basis gives you that confidence.
FEATURED JOB: Management Trainee Placement – Bedford
Leading on from this is all the things I have been involved in that I never even considered being part of my day-to-day job, from planning delivery runs in the most logistical manner, to meetings with body shop owners and dealership managers, marketing current and potential accounts; no two days are ever the same.
And to think, I had initially planned to do a Full Time 3 year degree! I honestly cannot recommend a placement highly enough, not only has it given me a completely new set of skills that I will have forever, but its also given me that one thing that every employer is looking for: Experience. The one thing that will set you apart from the hundreds of other applicants.
There is so much I have left out of this blog, including the rewards, which included a trip to Paris, the cars, the training programme, etc. But it would become a book, so I hope this just gives an overview of it all.
So whether it be a 3 month summer placement, a 12 month placement or Graduate Programme, why not give Enterprise a go and see what you could learn?
