Enterprise Rent-A-Car has been included in The Times’ Top 50 Employers for Women list for a record fourteenth year in a row, appearing every year since the list was started in 2005. This is a huge achievement and a credit to Enterprise’s continuing effort to ensure we remain a diverse and inclusive company.
Enterprise has stayed at the forefront of diversity in the UK thanks to the many initiatives that our employees organise and take part in. Our colleagues’ dedication to gender-related issue is impressive, with 43% of our diversity events last year being gender-related. Gender diversity forums and “Women in Leadership” meetings ensure discussion thrives across the business. Drive, our internal magazine, published quarterly, helps employees communicate and learn more about working with and managing women in the business. The annual “In Pursuit of Excellence” events allow us to share best practices with customers.
But it’s thanks to our company values if our commitment to diversity has remained a focus point for the business throughout all these years. Diversity and inclusion are core to our Cultural Compass, which are the values that guide our business.
As a company that mostly promotes from within, we always start with our talent. We employ inclusive strategies to recruit, develop and promote the best people. Today over 53% of university graduates are women. That is why we hire from over 100 universities in the UK and why we work with many universities on women’s programmes.
Our industry is tough – how do we attract women to the automotive or transport industry? We focus on career opportunity and development to reach our inspirational target of 50/50 hiring. Women are ambitious, and we communicate the opportunity for success at Enterprise.

Some of our policies, such as our AWAs (alternative work arrangements), phase-back policy, maternity and family coaching, maternity pay or shared parental leave, are viewed favourably. We listen and engage with employees on what we could do more through engagement surveys, our DRIVE magazine as well as our dedicated diversity teams.
How we develop and support talented women through our internal promotion process also stands out. We have great examples of mentoring and sponsorship and many of our employees take part in external mentoring programmes such as Bridge Builders and Girls Out Loud.
While this recognition is headlined as being about women, it’s meaningful to all employees. Companies that are really good for women are really good for everyone. It means colleagues feel empowered to speak up because they know Enterprise is listening and that we want to make our workplace quality and culture as inclusive as possible for every employee.
