I first heard of Enterprise through a friend who had taken part in an internship in Heathrow. Part of my degree means I have to complete a 12-month placement, and after discussing the position with her I was sold on Enterprise Rent-A-Car and everything it had to offer. The position really stood out to me due to the level of responsibility that interns are given, the training that is provided and the experience it has to offer.
As an intern I was expecting to be given the ‘easy jobs’ but from the first day, you are given the same responsibility as everyone else. The skills that I have gained in my first four weeks at the second biggest branch in Europe have been priceless and I know I will carry them throughout the rest of my career. There are opportunities available in every aspect of the business – sales, HR, marketing, customer service, accounting and finance. There is definitely something to suit everybody!
I feel the most attractive thing about my internship is the level of training that I am receiving. You get a 12-month training plan, part of which involves making presentations. This could be on areas where you feel you could improve the business and, if everything goes well, you could see your ideas being implemented – all while improving your presentation skills, which is a bonus for your final year in college! You also pick a training mentor whom you meet with on a monthly basis to support your training.
Enterprise only promotes from within, which means that the people here, no matter their level, have all started as Management Trainees making them very approachable and friendly. Teamwork definitely rules in Enterprise and the atmosphere that is created between employees makes working all the more fun.
The most valuable advice I would give to someone thinking about taking part in a placement year or internship would be to take the plunge and ask lots of questions. You’ll discover that there is a lot more to car rental than meets the eye. Take a look at the internship opportunities that Enterprise offers today.
