Having written previously on the Enactus finals little did I know the surprise I would get on the awards evening. But more of that later.
Yet again the finals didn’t disappoint with some new teams making the final 5: Durham, Leeds and Imperial, who were joined by final stalwarts Southampton, as well as the eventual winners, Sheffield. It’s great meeting so many ‘employable’ students who all have the skills employers look for when they recruit their company’s future leaders. This is why I talk so much about the need for students to know that employers look for more than just a degree. Joining and being an active member of university societies such as Enactus can give you those skills – such as business acumen, leadership, teamworking and communication (as well as many others) – that employers look for in the graduates they want to recruit. Not only that, but your involvement will also give you so many practical examples for you to talk about at interviews and assessment centres. And because Enactus is sponsored by some great companies, including Enterprise Rent-A-Car, you will also get to meet and network with quite a few prestigious graduate recruiters from across the UK.
And my surprise? I was awarded the Champion of Enactus – an award which I’m extremely proud to receive. I love working with Enactus as it’s a great society and has great students as members. And with a relationship that spans many years I’m sure more of our future leaders will be Enactus Alumni.
