One of the great things about the Enactus weekend is that it’s a chance for students to learn valuable employability skills. They should be thinking, “What do I have, what can I bring, how can I use what I’ve learned?” all to land a graduate career, an internship or a placement. It’s the chance to interact with Enterprise too, and it can speed the whole recruitment process up. At the previous Enactus weekends I met students I was very impressed with and actively pursued them and recruited them. There may be a lot of energy and excitement happening over the weekend, but it’s not just a jolly – it’s an employability weekend.
If you’re coming along as a student, you should plan to go away from there with a lead. Of course the focus is on projects and we’re there to help you, so use us! Everyone has a great time over the weekend – the other teams are there so you get to share ideas as well as scope out the competition.
It’s good fun and I’ve met some great people – really switched on and enthusiastic. The projects can be absolutely amazing, and they can help anyone around the world. Last year there was a group of students who’d helped a Thai village that was suffering because they’d lost their main rice crop for the year. The students taught the villagers how to take that dead rice, make rice pillows and sell them to replace what they’d lost in the crop.
I hear about some projects and they actually inspire me – I go away from the weekend wondering what charity or volunteer work I could get involved in!
What you need to do over the weekend is get involved in everything. Make friends, build relationships and never forget why you’re here. Use it to look for work as an intern or graduate, because we’ll be there looking for you. Get your CV ready to bring with you, and hopefully your project will inspire me too.
